Just Announced: Work Permit Extension for Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) Holders
On March 17, 2023, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, announced that international graduates with a recently expired or expiring PGWP will qualify for
an additional or extended work permit to stay in Canada longer and gain additional work experience for up to 18 months.
The PGWP allows students who have graduated from eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLIs) to obtain an open work permit to gain valuable Canadian work experience
which can help graduates qualify for permanent residence in Canada through the Canadian Experience Class within Express Entry. A PGWP is typically not extendable. Beginning April 6, 2023, the special measures will allow applicants to apply for the extension.
